English Literature ( M. A. Course)

Right from the very beginning, the Department introduced a relatively advanced syllabus with plenty of variety and lot of scope for innovations. Students get an opportunity to be in touch with New Literatures including Canadian Literature and the latest developments in Western and Indian poetics. Now the Department has a full-fledged Centre for Canadian Studies. Since 1995 the Department has been successfully coordinating a Functional English Course also with a view to enable and train the young students for various suitable jobs.

By the middle of 80s, as has already been mentioned, the Ph. D. programme was started. The focus is on Indian English Literature and Sanskrit literary theories. The Department could be proud of having produced more than 40 Ph. Ds on variety of topics. Some of the theses have been published as books, which received very favorable reviews. Now the Department has more than 30 Ph. D. scholars working on a variety of topics of a challenging nature under the guidance of our faculty
