The credibility and potential of the Department of Chemistry at Gurukula Kangri University, Haridwar, needs no pleading as the department has already shown that such small centers can be the pioneers in starting new job oriented courses like Diploma and master's programme in 'Commercial Methods of Chemical Analysis' (never known before in the field of Chemistry in India). |
|
The Master's programme (M.Sc.) in Chemistry with specialization in "Commercial Methods of Chemical Analysis", being currently offered is a job-oriented and applied course. There are 20 seats available for male (at main campus) and female candidates each. The admissions are given on the basis of minimum eligibility criteria followed by a competitive entrance examination conducted by Gurukula Kangri University during May-June each year. Also, there are additional 10 sponsored seats available to male and female candidates each. |
| In this course, the students are trained for working/ handling on instrumental techniques of industrial analysis like Refractometry, Polarimetry, Colorimetry, Spectrophotometry, Turbidimetry/Nephelometry, Flame photometry, Fluorimetry, Interferrometry, Conductometry, pH-metry, Potentiometry, Calorimetry, Column Chromatography, Paper Chromatography, Thin Layer Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Electrophoresis, Polarography, Cyclic Voltametry etc. |
| In addition they are allowed to earn expertise in using various models of these equipments for analyzing/testing the samples of industrial importance as those of Water, Soil, Fertilizers, Oils, Fat, Soaps, Detergents, Paints, Pigments, Cement, Mortar, Minerals, Metals, Alloys, Drugs and Pharmaceuticals including the allopathic as well as indigenous Ayurvedic drugs etc. |
| A paper related to Computer applications in Chemistry has been specially designed and introduced to fulfill the requirements of present day laboratories. The conventional methods of analysis like Volumetry, Gravimetry etc. are also covered to make them fit in almost each type of industrial laboratories requiring Analytical Chemists, Quality Control Chemists and R & D Chemists. |
| Since 1986, The pass outs have been getting jobs in various reputed and well established institutions and industries. Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Indian Oil Corporation, Archaeological survey of India, Delhi State Excise Department, Ranbaxy, Lupin, Dabur, Jagatjeet Singh Industries, Haryana leather chemicals, Amrit Vanaspati, Modi Vanaspati, Soap industries, Asian Paints, Industrial testing labs, Water analysis labs, Soil testing labs, Idma, Vam organics, Suger industry laboratories are a few to be named in this regard. Absorption is almost 100 %. |
| Some of the students have started their own industrial testing laboratories and pollution control companies. Campus interviews are held by different organizations. Recently the university has established a Placement and Training cell for the same purpose. |
