The Department of Zoology was established in 1961 with undergraduate level teaching.

Post graduate classes in Microbiology were started in 1984 with the recommendation of U.G.C. visiting committee during five year plan which is now with than Department of Botany and now called Department of Botany and Microbiology

On account of persistent efforts of Prof. B.D. Joshi M.Sc. Environmental Science classes were started in 1995.

About 219 dissertations have so far been submitted by the M.Sc. students of the department.
